Some of us dream of retiring to a small coastal village, but for the majority of the world’s population the city is the future.
As countries develop and become richer, they tend to become more urbanised. When this happens quickly, pressure can come to bear on housing and fresh water supplies, sewerage, the living environment and public health. It’s going to be up to you to make sure these problems can be either prevented or solved.
Developing countries are going to be responsible for 95 percent of global urban expansion in the next decade, but there will be plenty to consider here in Australia too. Creating sustainable environments, using less water in smarter ways and making buildings more energy-efficient, all while providing ever-improving living experiences, will no doubt be a part of your future roles.
