Bloomberg terminals
The UWA Business School offers access to Bloomberg terminals – software that allows students to use the Bloomberg Professional service whereby students can monitor and analyse real-time financial market data. The computer system is used by students in Accounting and Finance.

Scholarships are available to students from a diverse range of backgrounds, including academic achievement, financial need, educational disadvantage, leadership and community service, artistic or sporting achievements, and being from a rural or remote area.

Careers and further study
Associated professional pathways
As a Bachelor of Commerce graduate, you can choose from a multitude of professional pathways. Graduates with a major in Business Economics may choose to enter the Master of Economics.
Bachelor of Commerce graduates are also eligible to apply for a wide range of postgraduate business courses, as well as professional postgraduate degrees in Law, Medicine, Engineering (if they also hold a major in Engineering Science), and many other areas.

While at UWA I studied a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing and Economics with a Business Law minor and did a semester on exchange at Copenhagen Business School. I completed the Communications Council Graduate Program in 2013 and was hired as a graduate with Meerkats, the brand leadership company, in 2014 where I continued to work as Brand Coordinator until late 2016. Following this, I moved to West Australian Ballet as part of their Marketing Team, where I’ve been for the past year.

I was just lucky that my step into Advertising was so smooth and I’ve always been conscious that it often isn’t that easy for others. So outside of work I’ve been keen to be involved in providing support for people wanting to move into the Advertising/Marketing Industry through mentoring events with year 12s at my old high school, organizing social and networking events as a Committee Member on YoungbloodsWA and volunteering at UWA’s Markam events.
My nerdy passion is strategic thinking and creative solutions. Good brands really understand the importance of marketing strategy being at the very core of their business - in terms of understanding what it is that their company exists in the world to do. Then they use that strategy to make decisions on what products to sell, how to make them, where and how to sell them and what function their brand plays in the lives of their consumers. If time and energy were no object I truly would be the happiest person in the world to sit down with every business and talk about their strategy. I guess I would like to make a difference in the world by trying to provide businesses that add real value into the world with the tools they need to design a marketing strategy for their sustainability.

Commerce has always been my passion, so I decided to major in Accounting and Finance at the UWA Business School. After spending time working on my grades, pursuing worthwhile activities, editing my resumé and networking with industry professionals, I received an internship at Westcourt Chartered Accountants. This provided me with the chance to apply what I learned from books to real-life practical work, and lets me stand out from the crowd. My recommendation to all students, international or otherwise, is this: don’t be scared by what you perceive to be your limitations. Seize the initiative and make the changes you need to in order to live your life how you want to.

It was a steep learning curve and it was challenging and intense, but also incredibly rewarding. From the first day I was given meaningful work and was trusted with a great level of accountability. This role gave me what I’ve grown to appreciate as being the two most important factors in success: confidence and resilience. I left that job three years ago and joined BHPBilliton in the Iron Ore division, and this is where I am today, in a manager role supporting the Asset President and Iron Ore Leadership Teams.
