Our engineering and technology graduates are among the highest paid graduates in Australia, earning an average starting salary of $69,126 according to the Good Universities Guide 2016. Our students have access to key organisations through the Faculty’s industry connections. There are varied employment opportunities in Australia and internationally in the energy and resources sector, the pharmaceutical industry, manufacturing, power and water utilities. You could also enter the electronics, finance, management consultancy and telecommunications industries. With highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, engineering graduates also have a strong base to branch out into different industries, including senior management roles.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for school-leaver entry to UWA you are required to achieve the Western Australian Certificate of Education and obtain the minimum ATAR to gain a place in your chosen degree.

Mathematics requirement

This major requires a certain level of Mathematics. If you do not meet this level, you may be able to take additional Mathematics units in your first year to satisfy this requirement.

WACE prerequisite: Mathematics Specialist ATAR, Mathematics Methods ATAR, Chemistry ATAR and Physics ATAR

The Engineering Science major is your pathway to the Master of Professional Engineering and a global career as a professional engineer.
From building the world's largest man-made structures to its smallest electronic devices, and from moving people across the globe to sustaining their local environment, engineering affects every aspect of our lives.
The Engineering Science major provides you with fundamental engineering knowledge and develops your scientific, communication and problem- solving skills through a combination of practical, hands-on courses, industry projects and theoretical foundations.

About The Course

The Engineering program at UWA has been developed in consultation with industry to equip you with skills to succeed in your future career. To become a professionally qualified engineer, you'll complete five years of study, consisting of a three-year undergraduate degree with an Engineering Science major, followed by a two-year Master of Professional Engineering. In your first year of study, you'll complete a broad range of units before moving on to a specialised area of engineering in your second and third years. The course structure provides flexibility to sample diverse units to discover an area of focus for the Master of Professional Engineering.

Course Accreditation

The Master of Professional Engineering has been assessed for accreditation by Engineers Australia, the national accrediting body. The Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Chemical, Civil, Mining and Mechanical specialisations were fully accredited by Engineers Australia in 2016. The Software specialisation remains provisionally accredited until the required number of students graduate.
The Master of Professional Engineering (Chemical Engineering) is fully accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
The Master of Professional Engineering (Software Engineering) has been provisionally accredited by the Australian Computer Society.
