Applications, acceptances and visa applications for students from Genuine Temporary Entrant eligible countries

A guide for agents on the additional requirements of the Genuine Temporary Entrant process

One of the biggest anxieties faced by future students wishing to study in Australia is applying for and receiving a visa.  This concern is particularly significant for students from countries that are classified high immigration risk with respect to when the visa is issued – a late visa grant can lead to a student missing Orientation and even classes, making their ability to adjust to their new home more difficult than it would otherwise be.

To assist students with an easy transition to study at UWA, we are implementing application, acceptance and arrival deadlines, as well as a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) process for students intending to study with us in 2019.

These requirements will apply for students holding citizenship from the following countries:
Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gaza Strip and West Bank, Georgia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, India, Iran, Iraq,  Kenya, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North), Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Western Sahara, Yemen, Zambia, and any student who is considered stateless.

2019 deadlines

As we want to ensure that students and agents have the best application experience, our advice is always to apply and accept as early as possible - doing so allows plenty of time to handle any delays in the process and prepare for commencing studies. As such, the following deadlines for students from those countries referred to in the previous paragraph:

Applications for Semester 1, 2019

  • Completed applications must be received by Sunday 30 December 2018
  • Acceptance and payment must be received by Sunday 20 January 2019
  • Arrival at UWA must be no later than Monday 18 February 2019 (first day of Orientation)

Applications for Semester 2, 2019

  • Completed applications must be received by Sunday 2 June 2019
  • Acceptance and payment must be received by Sunday 23 June 2019
  • Arrival at UWA must be no later than Monday 22 July 2019 (first day of Orientation)

Genuine Temporary Entrant process

Due to the potential difficulty in obtaining visas, we are implementing a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) process as part of our application process for students from the countries noted above. Students will be required to complete and upload our GTE form as part of their application.

All offers from these regions will be conditional upon a satisfactory GTE assessment. We also remind you that passports/citizenship documents are required at the time of application to prevent any delays in the processing of applications.
