About Aspire UWA
We work with Western Australian high school students to inspire and educate them about the benefits of studying at university.
UWA’s expert researchers and teachers, student ambassadors and our staff deliver innovative hands-on activities showcasing future study options. Activities are delivered in partner schools in the local community and at UWA.
Our goal is building a culture where higher education is an expectation rather than the exception. A single visit to a university or a talk from university staff is unlikely to change perceptions that university is ‘not for me’; however, repeated engagement grows the confidence to aim high and achieve.
Our partner schools value the relationship developed with each individual school. Activities are tailored to each school and to each year group. Younger students enjoy active exploration of different disciplinary areas, while the reality of studying at university is reinforced for older students through teaching advanced study skills, revision workshops and exposure to some of WA’s best and brightest minds.
Specialist support for Indigenous students, and for students aspiring to study medicine or dentistry, complements our engagement strategy, and staff and students from all across the University contribute to our success.
Our target groups include students from low socio-economic backgrounds; Indigenous students; students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds; and students who would be the first in their family to attend university.
In 2017 more than 15,000 students were engaged through school visits, camps and on-campus events.
